Set WordPress Homepage

In this video, we show you how to fix “This page doesn’t seem to exist” when you navigate to your ROOT URL meaning your base URL (without adding the /home at the end of your URL), this usually happens when you initially use a new theme for your WordPress site.

How To Steps

1. 1. Go to Settings > Reading (located on your dashboard’s left sidebar).
   2. Where it says, “Your home page displays” select “A static page”
   3. From the drop-down menu choose the page you want to be your front page (this is also a way to create a template or maintenance page quickly and then point to it from your homepage. Since I do actually have a page called “Home” I’ll just set it to that.
      1. Now when you type your root URL it will go to the page you set and you no longer need to add something like /home or whatever you were trying to go to.
   4. Remember to click on “Save Changes”
   5. The WordPress support pages go deeper into this and provide other options but this one works best for me however I’ll leave a link to the support pages in the references section of this blog.

Conclusion

This one was a quick fix and as an added bonus this can be used if you want to quickly bring up a maintenance page, or point to a temporary page or even try out new approaches to the home page to see what yields the best results for you.
