Snow Blower – No Start – FIX

Full Video: Snow Blower – No Start – FIX less then 10 minutes

IMPORTANT/Prerequisits:

How to Fix Snow blower won’t start: This will indeed only take less than 10 minutes or maybe even closer to 5 minutes once you are comfortable doing it AND have the required tools (listed below). However, does require some of the below-listed tools before you start. (Click on the link to see each tool and you can order from Amazon if desired)

Tools Needed (Click links below to see on Amazon):

  1. 13 in 1 Welding Tip Cleaner (MOST IMPORTANT – might be able to substitute a wire but using the right tool is best, recommend ordering the 2 pack it a buck more so why not)
  2. Koehler Enterprises RA990 Multi-Use Siphon Fuel Transfer Pump Kit (for Gas Oil and Liquids), Red medium
  3. 1/4″ or 3/8″ ratchet with 10 mm deep socket (you can use a 10 mm wrench instead if you do not have a ratchet).
  4. Gas Can (CAUTION: You may already have one but remember ALWAYS use a certified Gas can do NOT substitute for anything else you are headed for a devastator and even with a gas can be EXTREMELY careful you are dealing with a very flammable liquid)
  5. Gumout 800002231 Carb and Choke Cleaner, 14 oz.
  6. (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED/Not Required): Sea Foam SF-16 Motor Treatment – 16 oz
  7. (OPTIONAL) Measuring Spoons: U-Taste 18/8 Stainless Steel (Need something to measure the Sea Foam for your GAS container.) Remember 1 tbsp = 1/2 oz.
  8. (OPTIONAL) VersaTex Multi-Purpose Recycled Rubber Floor Mat for Indoor or Outdoor Use, Utility Mat for Entryway, Tool Bench, Garage, Under-Sink, Patio, and Door Mat; 24″ x 36″, Black (Completly Optional, any mat similar item will likely work)

How To Steps

TIP: Click on links in text to get to the exact item and/or learn more.

  1. Siphon out all of the old fuel (and put it in a certified gas container (CAUTION: Always be extremely cautious when working with a flammable substance such as gasoline)
  2. Turn your snow blower shoot all the way to the left or right side so as not to damage it in the next steps.
  3. Give yourself plenty of space to work around and put a floor mat on the ground.
  4. (CAUTION: Get help from others and wear protective gear such as steel toe boots) Put the snow blower in the following position.
  5. Remove the RIGHT bolt (10mm) from the carburetor fuel catch bowl.
  6. Once the right bolt is out just pull to take off the entire bowl (the left bolt is only a fuel drain and not attached to the snowblower.
  7. Take the SMALLEST welding cleaning tip and put it through the orifice and work your way up the sizes (going bigger and bigger) inside until it does not fit then use the size smaller than that. Now that you have found the correct size tip to use simply pull it out and put it in 20 times.
  8. IMPORTANT: Spray CARB cleaner in the orifice and spray for 15-20 seconds and/or until you see some liquid coming out (do not overdo it)
  9. When you are done with that clean that little hole with the welding tip that’s showing the picture above also (outside and to the left) for good measure.
  10. Put the bowl back on and screw the 10mm bolt back on that you had removed earlier.
  11. Ideally, get brand new PREMIUM gasoline (or Ethonal Free Gasoline) and add Sea Foam (Fuel Treatment) to it and then put the gasoline back in your snowblower.
  12. Check for any leaks and fix as needed.
  13. VERIFY all the switches/knobs are in the correct spot AND PRIME it 15 times (see image below)
  14. Plugin your snowblower and try starting (do not depress the auto start button for more than 5 seconds at a time and 4 times at the most before giving it a rest and letting it cooldown)
  15. Congratulations at this point your snowblower should start, if it does not please see the troubleshooting section below.

Troubleshooting (IF the above did not work) (should have worked in 95% of the cases)

  1. Prime more (another 15 times and try again)
  2. Get a spark tester and check for spark.
  3. Replace your spark plug for good measure.
  4. Try pulling on the cord 20 times instead of using the auto starter
  5. If all else fails take it into the shop 🙁

MOST of the time it will just be this issue of the carburetor hole being gummed up as it does not take much to gum it up and fuel sitting there will do it 🙂
